Vaughan Children’s Dentistry has had an certified orthodontist on staff since 2014. The majority of patients in our practice will see Dr. Heather Ford for orthodontic consultations and treatment. Dr Ford is a certified specialist in orthontics as well as a certified Invisalign provider. There is no fee for any orthodontic consultations.

Complimentary Consultations

Many parents will ask us, “When should my child see an orthodontist?” The answer is that it depends on how the child’s bite is developing. At each an every routine hygiene visit, our pediatric specialists will measure and record different aspects of the bite. For most patients, we recommend an orthodontic consultation around age 9 or 10. We may recommend it earlier of there is something in your child’s bite that may benefit from early correction.

  • Early or late loss of primary (baby) teeth
  • Habits such as thumb sucking, finger sucking, or mouth-breathing
  • Problems with position of teeth such as crowding or spacing
  • Problems with adult teeth coming into the mouth

Here are a few things that may indicate your child is ready to see an orthodontist:

During your complimentary consultation, Dr. Heather Ford will meet you and your child. She will discuss with you how your child’s bite is developing and whether they would benefit from orthodontic treatment. She will explain the different treatment approaches for correction and answer any questions you or your child may have.

For some patients, she will recommend starting orthodontic treatment at this time. After answering any clinical or treatment related questions, one of our patient care coordinators will review scheduling, fees, and insurance if applicable.

For many patients, Dr. Ford will recommend monitoring the developing bite and will recommend following up in six months or a year.
